LBurg to become 3/8ths?
On this site as well as on others it's been mentioned they plan on making the track 3/8ths mile.
Whats everyones thoughts on this?
I kinda like the idea, However I think it might hurt car counts for regular shows. I think the racing might be better and more suited two two groves.
I guess we'll have to wait and see huh?

I've heard the argument about car owners not wanting to take the risk of trashing a car on a larger track, and I can see there point $$$$. But the way the track is now, real wide with no walls, does seem to take some of the spectacle away from watching the race. I guess it depends on whether the promoter wants to make his money at the front gate or the back gate. I suppose the risk is there by enlarging the track to do neither. Whether they enlarge it to 3/8ths or not doesn't matter to me, but I would like to see the racing surface replaced and contained inside some walls.

Happy New Year, 2007 is going to be the beginning of a great future for the Lawrenceburg Speedway. We will have a booth at the Indiana Racers Trade Show with lots of information such as schedules, rules and goodies to give away. Great news about the track is that construction is almost underway. Equipment is on the way and everything is set to be finished by April 1st. The track is going to 3/8th with new walls and catch fences around the track. The surface is getting 4 feet of clay all the way around the track. The banking will be 3 degrees on the straightaways and 10 degrees in the corners. The backstretch will include a wall and catchfence with a elevated area that will make for RV parking and tailgater parking that will be high enough to see the cars racing. With all these new improvements there will be many other changes, such as additional lighting, a new flagstand located on the grandstand side of the track in front of the scorers suite. Additional pit parking is in the works along with a new and improved pit parking surface. The infield area is going to be grass and have some nice landscaping added. The City of Lawrenceburg and the Parks Board is working very hard with us to get all this right. We all want Lawrenceburg Speedway to continue to grow and be the premier track in the nation. Thanks for all your patience. Sincerly, Dave Rudisell

Per a recent talk with Mel Johnson who, with his son Tim, will be doing track prep at Lawrenceburg in '07, they are going to hold off on stretching the track until after the '07 season. They will, according to Mel, be redoing the 1/4 mile including hauling in new clay. Just not enough decent weather time remaining to get everything done needed to go to 3/8 mile before April opening this season.

fishburger, Not stretching the track to 3/8ths is ok and hauling in the clay is a good thing. But what does "redoing" the track mean ? Do ya know or can ya find out ? I liked the track being a bowl like it is but will they do anything like leveing out the banking from top to bottom ? Or maybe even flatten out the curves some ? Thanks

Mozilla Firefox2 has a spell checker in it. Every time you misspell something it underlines it with the corrections available by right clicking.
It's very helpful.
