Hi,
My father, Bob Cook (1923-1988), was one of the regular race announcers at the old Cincinnati Race Bowl. I have memories of attending the midget (and stock car) races at the track, and of being in the wooden announcers booth at the top of the stands, which had doors at each end that you entered from the top row. I remember that my Dad and another man, probably the scorer or spotter, would continually drink big cups of lemonade through the night. I was usually told to sit in the stands outside the booth to the right, and I remember the cars being incredibly loud, particularly the midgets. I was probably four and five years old at the time, as I noticed from this site the track closed in 1958 (I was born in 1953).
My Dad drove midgets and Crosleys in competition in the old AAA, the forerunner of USAC, in 1949 and 1950, and was a life-long race fan. I place a checked flag on his grave every year, after I return from the Indy 500.
