Read an article that Hamilton county is looking into selling the existing fairgrounds and relocating in the western part of the county. What do you think the chances are we could get a race track on the new site?

The Enquirer Story is below......
Jeff, that same thought crossed my mind when I read the article about the Hamilton Fair being relocated. The way it sounds, they are trying to move to an existing facility/grounds, and I can't think of any place that has an existing Horse/race track where races could be held, if they intend to have a track (even for horses) at all. I don't think that auto racing, other than a Demo Derby or small Stock car race, has been a part of the Fair for a long while.
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 'Carthage Fair' may be history BY JESSICA BROWN | JLBROWN@ENQUIRER.COM The Hamilton County fair may have a new home in 2009.
At least that’s the hope of the county’s top fair official and the county administrator.
The Hamilton County Agricultural Society, which runs the 153-year-old fair, wants to move it from its current 30-acre site in centrally-located Carthage to a yet undetermined location in western Hamilton County in order to improve safety, revenue and attendance.
“I want to see the fair continue and I don’t think we can continue here,” said Patrick Ekardt, president of the Agricultural Society.
Discussions have swirled for years about the possibility of the fair moving. The most recent came in a suggestion by Commissioner Pat DeWine to sell the Carthage land to help pay for a new jail.
The land is owned by Hamilton County but under an agreement between the county and the non-profit Agricultural Society, neither party can move the fair or sell the land without the other party’s approval.
For the first time in years, it seems everyone is on the same page, said County Administrator Patrick Thompson.
“Discussions have been very positive,” he said after a Thursday meeting with the fair board. “I think it will happen.”
But it’s no simple deal. New land must be secured and money obtained to erect buildings like offices and barns. The Agricultural Society is seeking $2 million in state capital funds for the buildings and a grandstand.
“I’ve been bringing it up (moving) for 10 years. But this is as close as we’ve really gotten to doing something. This money would really get us going,” Ekardt said.
The Society recoups the cost of running the fair by renting out the buildings and land in the off-season. A nicer, air-conditioned main building could bring more revenue, Ekardt said. The fair also receives about $3,300 annually in county funding.
Ekardt also thinks a new location might be safer for fair patrons.
“We’re starting to have problems in the evenings with gangs and kids there for reasons other than the fair,” he said.
Hopefully in a new, more rural location, those problems would cease, he said. And he thinks a safer event with newer facilities might get people to start coming again.
Fair attendance hit an all-time low last year at around 12,000 people. It’s been as high as 30,000.
The Carthage land could be worth up to $4 million, he said.
The state capital request will be decided later this year.

Always wondered if any of that land on the old Gulf Refinery is available.
As for Carthage, I lived in elmwood for ten years and went to the fair (Walking distance once)
I gotta say it truthfully, For what a fair is actually about, Algriculture and farming, There isn't much left in the SW Ohio area. Dearborn barely gets enough to make it interesting. Get up around Lima and the fairs are huge.
Chuck, who don't think the land on a flood plain (Mill Creek) and amist vacant plants and building is worth much anyway.
