JERRY COONS JR. RETURNS ON DIRT, DAVE STEELE IN THE PAVEMENT CAR
Loveland, OH (Dec 19, 2006) -- Hoffman Auto Racing(HAR), the winningest Team in the history of USAC National Sprint Car Racing with 8 USAC National Sprint Car Championships, and 68 National feature wins, announced today that USAC veteran and defending USAC National Midget Champion Jerry Coons Jr. will return to drive the famous #69 on dirt, with USAC pavement superstar Dave Steele driving the pavement Kroger/Tide/Bounty/Pringles/Mopar sprinter.
Jerry Coons Jr. is a native of Tuscon Arizona. Jerry is one of USAC’s most talented drivers. He won 2 USAC National races for HAR in 2006, and also won the $30,000 Ultimate Challenge at Oskaloosa Iowa. Jerry won the 2006 USAC National Midget Championship in the Wilke Pak car after finishing in the runner up spot in 2005. Jerry finished 6th in the USAC National Sprint car Championship, even though he only ran the dirt races. “I am looking forward to being back in 2007 and winning races with the Hoffman’s. Hopefully the combination of Dave (Steele) and I can win another championship for the Hoffman Team”, said Jerry Coons Jr.
Dave Steele , a native of Florida , has become a USAC star since starting to run with the organization in 1993. Dave has won 2 USAC Silver Crown Championships , won in all 3 USAC National Divisions from 2001-2005, has 16 career Silver Crown wins, 26 National Sprint Car wins, and was
the first driver to win in the new Silver Crown pavement cars. “ It is great to join a Team with a winning tradition. I also have a history of winning, the combination is exciting” said Dave Steele.
“ We have had much success with Jerry in 2005 and 2006. He and Rob (Hoffman) are communicating well , and winning races. Jerry is a pleasure to work with , he drives the car hard each and every race. Hoffman Auto Racing (HAR) competes in the Sprint Car and Silver Crown Divisions of the United States Auto Club (USAC). HAR was founded in 1929 by August (Gus) Hoffman. Three generations of Hoffman’s are involved with the Team, including Gus’s great grandchildren A.J. and Lauren, who have begun their quartermidget careers. HAR is the all time leader in USAC National Sprint Car Team victories with 68, and National Championships with 8. HAR also has 7 Silver Crown victories, for a total of 75 National wins. HAR celebrates 78 years of competition in 2007.
