Lawrenceburg Speedway results for Saturday July 17, 2010
Night of Destruction
Packed House enjoys Night of Destruction
A large crowd at the Lawrenceburg Speedway enjoyed a full night of racing, rollover contests, and derbies. The crowd favorite class of the night was The Howie’s Diner School Bus race. 4 full length school buses competed in 2 heat races and a demo derby. 4 uniquely painted buses took to the track and raced 4 wide, even bumping and trading paint around the 3/8 mile track. But the 4 drivers did an awesome job of racing each other clean and making exciting races for the fans! The first heat race was won by Mark Moss by a matter of inches over Joshua “The Madman” Shaw. In the second heat race, Shaw had to come from almost a half lap down to nip Mike Engel driving “The Big Red Express” at the line. Later on the buses would compete in a demo derby with Mark Moss winning as the last bus still running.
The Gamble’s Furniture 100 lap Hornet Enduro Featured 100 laps of non-stop racing action. Only 1 red flag stopped the race to clear the track of dangerous debris. Bill Grant led all 100 laps with Tommy Fleener following him closely for most of the 100 laps. Fleener tried to get around Grant on several occasions but was unable to do so.
The All Safe Security, Inc Cruiser class was up next to run heat races, with The Plumm brothers sweeping the top spot in both races. Ronald and Donald would take the checkered flag over Warren Lucas and Kevin Back in the feature event.
The Lawrenceburg Urgent Care Rollover contest featured 3 cars attempted to ramp off a one-sided ramp and roll their cars. For every turn they make in the air, points are scored. Many of the crowd had never seen anything like this, and what a treat they were in for. Scotty Brown was the first to hit the ramp doing a complete rollover and scoring 5 points. Unfortunately, he ended up breaking an axle when he landed and he would not finish. Mealy Brown would attempt a run as well rolling only half way over. The man of the rollover contest was Doug Brown who on his first attempt would roll 2 complete times scoring 10 points. That would be all he would need to be crowned champion of the Rollover Contest.
The final event of the evening was Miamitown Autoparts big car demo derby. 7 cars would begin the demo, each one of them with the goal in mind to be the final car running. As the first 5 cars were eliminated relatively quickly, one would have thought the final two would finish it up quickly. The final 2 competitors were Toby Highley and Richard, “The Roach” Hoag. These two battled it out for quite a while before Hoag was able to ram Highley’s car into submission.
All in all, The Night of Destruction was a great night of unique fun, which everyone involved enjoyed.
Regular racing programs return on Saturday July 24th, with Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars, Budweiser UMP Modifieds and the Ohio Valley Screenprinters Purestocks.
