LAWRENCEBURG CHEVROLET SPRINTS – Mel Johnson Classic (non point)
Westfall Wins Sprint B Feature for Mel Johnson Classic!
Matt Westfall from Pleasant Hill, Ohio would lead the first 10 laps in the B feature before losing the lead to young hot shoe John Memmer. Memmer would pace the field for the next 7 laps and looked like he was on his way to his third win in 2010 at Lawrenceburg. On Lap 17, Westfall pulled a slide job on Memmer in turn 3, by the time Memmer would fight back, he had jumped the cushion which upset his sprint car causing it to tumble in turn 4. Brett Burdette and Michael Fischesser were also involved in the lap 17 incident. Westfall would lead the final 8 laps to take the checkered flag over Chad Boespflug, JJ Hughes, Logan Hupp and Jonathan Vennard.
Fitzpatrick dominates Sprint A feature for Johnson Classic!
18 year old Blake Fitzpatrick from West Terre Haute, Indiana would lead all 30 laps to win The Mel Johnson Classic A feature. The win was well deserved, and many believe Fitzpatrick should have 2 feature wins at Lawrenceburg this year. Earlier this year, Blake dominated a feature race before jumping the cushion and flipping his sprint ending his chances of a win that night. This night would be different. Fitzpatrick would run right up around the top of the groove and would even hop the cushion from time to time. The only other driver that was able to compete with Fitzpatrick was Brady Short who was trying for his third win of the weekend on Sunday. As fast as he was, Short was not able to keep up with Fitzpatrick. Short would finish second followed by Andrew Elson, Joss Moffatt and Mark Perry III. 15 sprint cars would take the green flag with 12 of the 15 running at the checkered flag.
